The Alcohol Related Deaths And Alcohol Related Problems That Are Interlinked With Heavy And Hazardous Drinking And What Can Be Done About Alcoholism And Alcohol Abuse In Our Country
How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? How many people lose their lives each year from a condition that is 100% preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many people are the victims of alcohol related crime or violence each and every year? How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many people's lives are cut short due to abusive and unhealthy drinking? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they require? How many individuals face severe consequences in their lives because they received a "drunk driving" conviction? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose?
So what is the primary reason for asking these questions? Mainly to emphasize the devastating and destructive nature of abusive and careless drinking. Indeed, and based on the above questions, it is a wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an excessive manner.
Stated a different way, with the host of legal proceedings, employment dilemmas, financial difficulties, relationship issues, and health problems that are associated with chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, why would any person with average intelligence want to drink in a hazardous and irresponsible manner? In fact when some of the above topics are put under the microscope more closely, abusive and careless drinking becomes more illogical and makes even less sense.
Wouldn't you imagine that heavy drinkers would be able to see some of the alcoholism symptoms that they display? In a similar manner, doesn't it seem feasible to think that more heavy drinkers would be able to perceive some of the alcoholism signs that they manifest? In addition, wouldn't you think that people who are alcohol dependent would try to learn more about their alcoholic symptoms by researching various alcohol related information, facts and statistics?
After reviewing the alcoholism and alcohol abuse research findings, the point is so relevant that it needs to be stated again: With all of the destructive and debilitating outcomes that are directly or indirectly linked to continuous and repetitive alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, why would any person want to engage in hazardous drinking?
What can be done about the pervasive nature of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction in our country? First, society needs to get the message to more people about the debilitating and unhealthy consequences of excessive and hazardous drinking. Second, people who are alcohol abusers or alcohol addicts need to look look at themselves frankly and ask why they are not getting the professional alcohol treatment they require.
Thirdly, our students need more meaningful and more relevant educational and preventative approaches and methods so that more students at all grade levels, including those who are at college, "get the word". And fourth, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life rather than gravitating to the "instant gratification" and the "quick fix" of an alcohol or drug abuse "high" or "buzz".
There's room for hope and optimism if people can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in excessive and unhealthy drinking can become persuaded to get the alcohol treatment they require. Indeed, why put your loved ones through pain, suffering, and turmoil because of your excessive and unhealthy drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking responsibly or even abstaining from drinking if you cannot control your drinking?
